夏日長（陳展鵬飾）是電視台的綜藝組高級編導，製作的節目皆大受歡迎。他出身於寄養家庭，自小勤奮用功，做事不甘後人，對節目製作有獨到的見解和精闢的角度。日長與寄養家庭家長劉翠雲（李司棋飾）及其一家感情要好，卻對生母夏笑嫻（陳秀珠飾）不聞不問。
拍真人秀 農村體驗
一次靈機一觸，日長建議開拍全新真人秀節目，紀錄城市年青人反璞歸真，在農村體驗生活十四天的情況，挑選了典型城市少年張俊傑（阮政峰飾）為真人秀主人翁。俊傑心想成名，一口答應。前期工作正籌備得如火如荼，日長的助手突然離職，他遇上積極主動，對工作充滿熱誠的許美鳳（黃翠如飾），即聘任她為助手。美鳳剛從加拿大回港，因與父爭執毅然離開父親公司，返港追尋理想。……
